False River Closed After Deadly Boating Accident
NEW ROADS, La. (AP) Authorities have shut down False River after a boating accident left one person dead and another one missing.
Two boats collided in the river in Pointe Coupee Parish around 10 p.m. Friday, killing Shane Mouton, of Fordoche, and injuring two others, the sheriff's office said. A fourth person remained missing Saturday, prompting the river's closure.
Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux said he expects the river to remain closed until they recover the missing person, news outlets reported.
The collision involved a 20-foot boat, operated by Mouton, and a bass boat. A Good Samaritan picked up the injured boaters who were later transferred to Our Lady of the Lake hospital in Baton Rouge for treatment. They're expected to survive, authorities said.
The cause of the collision remained under investigation.
Moutons body was turned over to the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroners Office to determine an official cause of death.
